Flexi Cap Mutual Funds in India

Flexi Cap is an open-ended equity category defined by SEBI to require a minimum 65% allocation to equity and equity-related instruments, with no restriction on how that allocation is split across large, mid and small cap stocks. That single rule is what separates it from every other equity category on this page: a Flexi Cap fund manager can move weight toward large caps when they consider mid and small caps expensive, or lean into smaller companies when the manager sees more room to grow there, without breaching a market-cap mandate.

This structural flexibility means two Flexi Cap funds from different fund houses can look meaningfully different in practice — one might run a large-cap-heavy portfolio that behaves closer to a Large Cap fund, while another may carry a larger mid- and small-cap tilt and behave closer to a Multi Cap fund. The category was created in 2020 when SEBI relabelled a subset of existing Multi Cap funds precisely to give fund houses this discretion, after the newer Multi Cap category was locked into fixed minimum allocations across all three market-cap segments.
