Equity Savings is a SEBI hybrid category built around a three-way split: a minimum 65% combined allocation to equity and equity-related instruments (which includes arbitrage positions), alongside debt instruments, with a minimum debt allocation and the specific proportions disclosed in each scheme's stated strategy. What sets it apart is that a meaningful part of its "equity" allocation is typically held through arbitrage positions — simultaneous long-cash, short-futures trades — rather than pure directional equity exposure.

That structure gives Equity Savings a materially lower net equity (directional market) exposure than its headline equity allocation would suggest, since arbitrage positions are classified as equity for regulatory and tax purposes but are designed to be largely insulated from market direction. This is the key distinction from Aggressive Hybrid or Balanced Advantage, both of which carry direct, largely unhedged equity exposure within their equity sleeve — Equity Savings instead blends a smaller directional-equity portion, a debt portion, and an arbitrage portion, aiming for a lower-volatility profile than a fund with the same headline equity percentage held directly.
